The JP Dept. of Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre, Jaiprakash P Hospital Rourkela, celebrated ‘National Voluntary Blood Donation Day’ on 1st October 2023, in its Dhanawantari Hall. This year’s theme is “Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often”.
Blood donation is a noble act that can save many lives and help in the management of certain disorders. This day is celebrated in memory of Dr. Jai Gopal Jolly, who was the founder and head of the Department of Transfusion Medicine. He is the pioneer of the voluntary blood donation movement in the country.
This programme was coordinated by Dr Santosh Kumar Mishra, HOD, dept. of JP Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre & his team. The event began with an ‘In-house Felicitation ceremony’ to the in-house & external voluntary blood donors of JP Hospital followed by a ‘Voluntary blood donation’ process at the JP Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre dept. The donors were felicitated by the Managing Director Dr. Chandan Bansal and Dr. Santosh Kumar Mishra.
During this noble event, employees of Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre and Lab Medicine departments were awarded with ‘Appreciation Certificate’ for their hard work and sheer dedication towards their work. This made the employees enthralled and motivated them to keep up their great work of serving the patients and society.
