National Voluntary Blood Donation Day was celebrated on Oct 1 at JP Hospital Rourkela by the JP Department of Transfusion Medicine & Blood Centre. National Voluntary Blood Donation Day is getting celebrated in India on the 1st of October every year to share the need and importance of blood in the life of an individual. It was first started celebrating on the 1st of October in the year 1975 through the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology
The event was marked by conducting a free test for Blood Pressure, Hemoglobin & BMI. All regular voluntary blood donors were felicitated for their contribution to society and for saving many lives by donating their blood.
This program was attended among others by the JP Blood Centre Team comprising HOD of Lab Medicine Dr. Suchitra Sahoo, Consultant Transfusion Medicine Dr. Santosh Kumar Mishra, Senior Consultant Medicine Dr. B K Kakkad, Medical Superintendent Dr. Debasish Patnaik, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. S K Mahapatra, Dean Academics Dr. Biswajit Mohapatra and Senior Consultant Microbiology Dr. Indu Biswal along with CEO of JP Hospital Dr. D K Mishra. Media persons were also present and they interacted with JP Transfusion Medicine & Blood Centre team about various aspects of blood donation and the importance of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day.
