Jaiprakash Hospitals, Rourkela has been treating many critical pediatric cases and has one of the best equipped  Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in entire Odisha with experienced & specialist Pediatrician to handle any critical & emergency cases. This also means that a child patient need not be taken outside for treatment, thereby, saving time & cost by getting quality treatment in Rourkela itself with critical follow-up service facilities.

Recently a 4 months old Sachiel Manki from Garposh area was brought to JP Hospital in a very critical conditions as the child’s heart was not functioning properly and was not in a position to be shifted outside for treatment. Earlier the child was taken to two other Rourkela Hospitals but the situation did not improve.

After initial assessment by JP Pediatric team of Dr. Samir Ranjan Padhi & Dr.Debendra Sha,the child was advised to go for ECG. The ECG report revealed that the heart of the child was not beating  properly. From further  clinical investigation in the form of 2D ECHO, it was found that the child was suffering from  Myocarditis, which is an inflammation of the heart.

muscle (myocardium) along with Cardiogenic Shock.Cardiogenic shock is a life-threatening condition in which your heart suddenly can’t pump enough blood to meet your body’s needs. The inflammation of the heart muscle  can reduce the heart’s ability to pump and cause rapid or irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias).Because of myocarditis, blood clot had developed in the child’s heart, resulting in irregular contraction.Signs and symptoms of myocarditis include chest pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, and rapid or irregular heartbeats.

Further. since this 4 months child was in shock, no veins could be visible making treatment difficult and a challenge for JP Pediatric team headed by Dr.Samir Ranjan Padhi & Dr.Debendra Sha, JP Consultant Pediatricians. The patient’s guardian also had full faith on JP Hospital for a positive outcome. Dr.Debendra Sha, in order to facilitate proper treatment, established a central vein line for the child. The potassium level was also low and required correction.

Appropriate measures were taken for the treatment of this child considering the age and was gradually out of danger with drastic improvement in the condition after being shifted to JP PICU for treatment under watchful eyes of Dr. Samir Ranjan Padhi & Dr.Debendra Sha. Now the patient is discharged and leading a normal life.
