Uncommon double cyst in lung treated by JP CTVS Surgeon

A cyst is an abnormal fluid-filled sac that may be filled with air, fluid, or other materials. Infections, tumors, parasites, and injuries can cause cysts. There are some uncommon cysts also like multiple cysts found in and around the same location. If left untreated, benign cysts can cause serious complications including Infection – the cyst fills with bacteria and pus and becomes an abscess. In a similar type of case, a 19 years old girl working in Tamil Nadu, came to JP Hospital Rourkela with complaints of regular cough with blood for the last six months, fever, and chest pain.

This patient, who was admitted under Dr.Javid V Sadique Senior CTVS Surgeon with over 25 years of experience, after initial assessment & thorough clinical investigations, was diagnosed as having 2 hydatid cysts in the left lung, one in the upper region and the other in the lower part of the left lung. Before coming to JP Hospital, this girl had visited other hospitals also but it could not be treated.

Since lung cysts can cause pneumothorax or collapsed lung, Javid V Sadique immediately decided to go for surgical intervention and removed both of the cysts, which had developed in different locations of the left lung. The gap, thus created post-surgery was also filled. Finally, this girl was discharged in stable condition in a very short period of time. Other team members of the JP CTVS team along with Dr.Javid V Sadique included Cardiac Anesthetist Dr.Samrajni Ganguly, Surgical asst. Mr.Amrit, Perfusionist Mr.Soumik, Anesthesia Technicians Mr. Umesh & Kiram, and Scrub Nurses Ms.Baijanti & Sumitra.
