Infection Prevention Week celebrated at JP Hospital

Jaiprakash Hospital, Rourkela, celebrated International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) from 15th October to 21st October 2023. The theme this year for IIPW is “Celebrating the Fundamentals of Infection Prevention” which highlights getting back to the basics of infection prevention and improving awareness of the significance of infection prevention by adopting various measures & steps.

The week-long program was held under the guidance of the JP Hospital Infection Control Committee (HICC) Chairperson and the CEO of JP Hospital, Dr. Debendra Kumar Mishra and under the supervision of Dr. Suryarashmi Sahoo, Consultant Microbiology & Infection Control at JP Hospital, Rourkela. The celebration & awareness program started with Rangoli, Poster, Dance and Quiz competitions on the topic of various steps of hand washing & other infection control measures.

JP family members very enthusiastically participated in these events swearing for themselves to keep their lives infection-free by following the rules and principles of Infection Prevention principles and guidelines. This was followed by an awareness parade dedicated to JP patients and their attendants where sensitization was done on all the floors of the hospital through an Infection Control Parade. During the parade, the distribution of pamphlets describing the importance of hand hygiene and infection control was done. Further, a day was dedicated to creating infection awareness and prevention among dialysis patients.

Dr Suryarashmi Sahoo says “If one follows a proper hand-washing regime in one’s day-to-day life, most of the transmissible diseases will be at bay.”

Finally, on the concluding day, attractive prizes along with certificates of appreciation were distributed to the winners and participants. Dr Suchitra Sahoo (HOD-Lab Medicine), Dr. Saurya Mohapatra (HOD-Quality Dept.) and Dr. Nishu Bansal (Pediatrician) from JP Hospital were the judges for these competitive events.
This entire week-long event was planned, coordinated and, executed by JP Nursing Supt. Swapnarani Jena, Deputy Nursing Supt. Bonney M. Arora and Sasmita Pradhan, Asst. Nursing Supt. Suman Maharana and Bandita Patra, Infection Control Nurse Debaki Malik, Lab Technicians Ranjita Samantaray and Kanchan Choudhary. The entire event was covered by members of JP Digital Team along with JP T&D Dept.
