Ameloblastoma
Jaiprakash Hospital has successfully treated a complex case of ameloblastoma, a rare and benign tumor of the jaw, with an innovative surgical procedure. The patient Md. Abuzaid from Bisra (Near Rourkela), underwent a hemimandibulectomy with complete tumor resection, followed by cosmetic reconstruction, all in one sitting by Dr Priyanka Bhoi (Consultant Cleft & Craniofacial Surgeon).

The surgery involved removing the affected portion of the mandible along with a 1cm margin to ensure complete excision of the tumor. Recession was done by Dr Priyanka and then Dr. Sudhansu Sekhar Das (Senior Consultant Orthopedic Spine, and Arthroplasty) took the graft and later Dr. Priyanka used free fibula for reconstruction of mandible.
Dr. Priyanka expressed her satisfaction with the outcome, saying, “The patient is doing well and his facial symmetry was corrected. This type of surgery requires precision and careful planning, and we are very happy with Md. Abuzaid recovery so far.”
In the next phase of treatment, the hospital plans to perform dental implants to replace the missing teeth further improving Md. Abuzaid quality of life. Dr. Priyanka Bhoi (Consultant Cleft & Craniofacial Surgeon) who led the surgery, ensuring a scarless procedure and excellent cosmetic results.
