World Mental Health Day Celebrated At JP Hospital

World Mental Health Day was celebrated today October 10, at JP Hospital Rourkela by JP Psychiatric Department. The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health.

The program was attended by Dr. Rajani Verma (Consultant Psychiatrist), Ms. Neha Kujur (Psychologist), Dr. Debasish Patnaik (Medical Superintendent), Dr. Biswajit Mohapatra (Dean Academics), Dr. R N Mohapatra (Senior Neurosurgeon), Dr. Satyabrata Jena (Neuro Physiotherapist) among others. A brief media session was held where attendees expressed their views on the importance of mental health in today’s world and took questions from media present on mental health and related topic. Later a relaxation session was held under the guidance of Dr.Rajani Verma & Ms.Neha Kujur, for the audience.

The JP Psychiatry team also took questions from the audience related to sleep disorder, depression, addiction, the difference between mind & thought, negative thoughts etc.
According to Dr.Debasish Patnaik “ Mental health is a global phenomenon now and people should come forward and discuss their problems with a specialist”. Dr.Biswajit Mohapatra said “ Don’t feel shy about your mental health issues. Everybody has faced this at some point in their life”.Dr.R N Mohapatra opined “ Total health includes physical as well as mental health. A person should take care of both this health for a healthy life” Dr.Satyabrata Jena informed that “Physiotherapy too can play an important role in mental health by promoting functional movement, movement awareness, physical activity and exercises, bringing together physical and mental aspects”
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Mental health is essential at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Dr.Rajani Verma says “People should not feel that only a mad patient is treated by a psychiatrist but any person suffering from anxiety, stress, depression, any person having a behavioural problem, dealing with addiction issues and sexual problems can take help from us without any hesitation”. Ms.Neha Kujur said that “Mental Health is like any other physical health and people should not ignore common problems like not getting proper sleep, feeling restless, unnecessary thoughts coming to mind etc which are part of mental health and should consult a psychiatrist or a psychologist”
JP Hospital Rourkela has a dedicated Psychiatry Department headed by Dr.Rajani Verma Consultant Psychiatrist & Ms.Neha Kujur Psychologist. For any mental health issues, people can come to JP Hospital for treatment.Dr.Rajani Verma concludes “Most of the mental health problems can be treated if a person identifies and accept their problems early and consult a specialist”
