THE PRESENCE OF A CARDIAC FAILURE PATIENT OF JHARKHAND AT THE RIGHT PLACE AND AT THE RIGHT TIME SAVE HIS LIFE IN JP HOSPITAL

There have been many instances when a person has to survive will survive no matter what medical conditions that person is going through or is subjected to. Specially in medical cases if a patient can reach a healthcare facility in time, it can save many lives. JP Hospital Rourkela has been dealing with such critical cases, where patients on verge of collapsing have been given a new life.

Recently in similar cases, a patient with a history of congestive heart failure had come to JP OPD department for follow-up doctor consultancy and collapsed due to sudden cardiac arrest. Fortunately his presence at JP Hospital, at that time, allowed JP Doctors to capitalize on the golden hours available for the patient.

This 53-year-old male patient from the Danda Sai area of Jharkhand was immediately taken to JP Emergency Department and was subjected to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) under the watchful supervision of Dr.B K Kakkad ,Senior Consultant Medicine & Dr.Shashank Sinha, HOD , JP Emergency.CPR is an emergency life-saving procedure that is done when someone’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped. This may happen after a medical emergency, such as a heart attack. Electric Shock was also used along with CPR and finally, the patient was revived after ten minutes of continuous life-saving effort. However, the patient was hemodynamically highly unstable with tachyarrhythmias ( abnormal heart rhythms with a ventricular rate of 100 or more beats per minute) and low blood pressure.

The patient was intubated, which is a process where a tube is inserted through a person’s mouth or nose, then down into their trachea (airway/windpipe). The tube keeps the trachea open so that air can get through. The tube can connect to a machine that delivers air or oxygen. The patient was immediately shifted to MICU for further management under the expert supervision of Dr.Arun Kumar Sahu, JP MICU Incharge & Consultant Critical Care & team. After continuous monitoring, care & effective treatment, the patient was extubated ( taken off the ventilator) within 24 hrs with his vitals showing a normal trend. Gradually patient condition improved and was discharged on the fourth day of hospitalization.

Dr.Shashank Sinha, HOD JP Emergency Deptt says “ if a patient is brought within the golden hours to a medical facility, he or she has a very high chance of surviving post-cardiac arrest not only in cardiac cases but even in any serious conditions or road traffic accident cases”.JP Emergency Department is regarded as one of the best & well -equipped units with a specialized team, to take care of any emergency need of a patient in the shortest possible time.
