Odisha APCON 2023: 51st Annual Meet of IAPM held at JP

Jaiprakash Hospital & Research Centre, Rourkela, along with its core responsibility being patient care has been volunteering at several social, and cultural, events as well towards raising awareness for medical & health-related causes, goals and objectives.

Towards this, the ‘51st Annual Meet of Indian Association of Pathologists & Microbiologist (IAPM), Odisha Chapter Rourkela’, organized by the Scientific Association of Rourkela Pathologists (SARP) was held at Jaiprakash Hospital on September 9th and September 10th, 2023. The guest of honour on this special occasion was the National President of IAPM, Dr. Sharada Rane and the National Vice President of IAPM, Dr. Kanaka Lata Dei. The guest speakers were Dr. Sangeeta Desai, Head of Pathology Dept., TMH, Mumbai and Dr. (Col.) Deepak Mishra, Head of Pathology Lab Director of TMC, Kolkata and they also delivered their valuable viewpoints and suggestions on various topics.

As we know, hospitals matter to people and mark central points in their lives, hence, this scientific academic session was used to educate and update young doctors in the field of Pathology which will allow these medical professionals to provide remarkable medical coverage to all patients on a larger scale of society, including emergency care, preventive medicine, diagnostic procedures, surgeries and medicine necessary to treat their condition.

This grand event took place at ‘JP Convention Hall’. The main organizers of this event were Dr. Jaya Krushna, organizing Chairperson and Dr. Suchitra Sahoo, organizing Secretary, Odisha APCON and HOD Lab Medicine, JP Hospital. More than 200 pathologists from all over Odisha & beyond attended this event.

The participants

On 9th September 2023, a conference consisting of 11 sessions was covered based on various fields of Pathology. The main topics covered under the 11 sessions were Uropathology, Haematopathology, AI and digital Pathology, Best of Slides, Paper and poster, Quality and safety in Lab, Resident Bowl, Pathopreuner, Debate and Problems pertaining to young pathologists. The various specialists and experts from the relevant field participated in the event and shared their ideas, concepts, beliefs, experiences and valuable feedback relating to each individual topic of the session in detail.

An interesting Quiz Session was also held for the participants towards the evening after the completion of the sessions, followed by an Industry Sponsor Session towards the end. Lined up after this, was the inauguration of Odisha APCON 2023, the Chief Guest being Dr. Debendra Kumar Mishra, CEO of JP Hospital, followed by a cultural program by the Delegates.

On 10th September 2023, the schedule included an ‘Award Paper Session’ and the event’s closing ceremony. Finally, the program concluded with ‘Odisha Chapter Oration in Loving Memory of Late Prof. Gouri Shankar Acharya’.
