Very recently a 41 years old lady, who suffered severe cardiac failure came to JP Hospital and was admitted under veteran JP CTVS Surgeon Dr. Javid V Sadique. After initial assessment & clinical investigations, it was found that three of her heart valve were affected badly with aortic & mitral valves needing immediate replacement to save her life and urgent repair of her tricuspid valve. This patient was suffering from rheumatic heart disease for the last 20 years and visited other hospitals. But her condition did not improve. Finally, she was brought to JP Hospital after hearing that it has the best cardiac facilities and provides free treatment under BSKY to the card holders. This patient was severely anaemic with acute breathing problems along with grossly underweight, weighing just 33 kg.
After thorough discussion & brainstorming, the JP CTVS team headed by Dr.Javid V Sadique decided to go for operative procedures to save the patient’s life. Now the challenge was that the patient was not clinically fit to go for surgery at the time of admission because of her underlying health conditions. Further, the CTVS team needed to confirm whether to treat the patient as a pediatric case or as an adult because of her weight.
First, the CTVS team worked on improving her medical conditions to make her fit for surgical intervention. Then changes were made in a circuit of the patient’s heart and lungs machine. The aortic & mitral valves were replaced by mechanical valves. The damaged tricuspid valve was repaired through surgical intervention. Finally, the surgeries were successful, thanks to the effort of Dr.Javid V Sadique, who used his more than 25 years of experience to give a new life to this patient who was almost on verge of losing her life. The patient gradually started breathing normally and was fit and ready to be discharged on the fifth day itself.
