Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are conditions that are present at birth. As medical care and treatment have advanced, infants with congenital heart defects are living longer and healthier lives.JP Hospital, Rourkela has a well-equipped & specialized Cardiac Science Department with the availability of a super-specialist team dealing with cardiac issues successfully. Recently a 30 years old male patient from the Bamra area, with complaints of palpitation, shortness of breath, and heavy heartbeats came to JP Hospital Rourkela for treatment.

It was found that this patient was detected as having a congenital heart defect when he was 15 years of age. For the last 15 years, this patient was on a medicinal approach and had visited almost all the hospitals of Rourkela for treatment. When his condition became serious, the patient after getting to know through a YouTube channel about the free treatment being provided under BSKY to cardiac patients at JP Hospital, decided to come here as his last option.

Initially, the patient was treated by Dr.R Pradeep Kumar JP Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, and later by Dr.Javid V Sadique JP Senior CTVS Surgeon for a defect found in the patient’s ASD ( Atrial Septal Defect) and tricuspid valve. He was operated on by Dr.Javid & CTVS team for both conditions. Other team members of the CTVS team included Cardiac Anesthetist Dr.Samrajni Ganguly, Surgical Asst. Mr.Amrit, Perfusionist Mr.Soumik, Anesthesia Technicians Mr. Umesh & Kiram, and Scrub Nurses Ms.Baijanti & Sumitra. Since this medical condition also resulted in a limited flow of blood to the lungs area, the lungs had also got affected, for which the patient has been prescribed medicines. Gradually the patient started showing signs of remarkable improvement and has been discharged in stable condition.

Since this patient had BSKY Card, he was treated on a cashless basis. The patient was very grateful to JP Hospital for his treatment & Odisha Government for providing a BSKY card, which enabled him to get free treatment at a quality hospital.
