BLIND GIRL GETS VISION BY THE EFFORT OF JP EYE SPECIALIST

Loss of vision is one of the biggest impediments to leading a normal life. This condition not only affects the quality of life but also lowers the self-esteem of a person. But now thanks to the effort of the JP Ophthalmology Team headed by Dr. Arun Kumar Panigrahi, the people of Western Odisha can have access to quality ophthalmic treatment and proper eye care services.JP Hospital, Rourkela has been handling many eye-related cases including a recent one, where an almost blind girl was successfully treated for getting her vision back.

This 14-year-old patient from Lathikata Block of Sundergarh district, who was suffering from diminished vision, got admitted to JP Hospital under Dr. Arun Kumar Panigrahi. This girl thought she will never get her vision back. However, her parents assured her that JP Hospital is the only place where she has a chance of getting her vision, and imposed full faith on JP doctor. This girl’s plight was identified through multiple JP Mobile Free Eye Check-up Camps being conducted all over the region, in coordination with local social organizations under the coordination of Mr. Suresh Sharma’s guidance and support of Mr Sanjay Bansal Chairman of JP Hospital.

After a thorough check-up & investigations, the patient was diagnosed with Cataract LE and was referred for Phacoemulsification, or phaco, which is a method of cataract surgery in which the eye’s internal lens is emulsified using ultrasonic energy and replaced with an intraocular lens implant, or IOL.

Dr Arun Kumar Pangrahi, the veteran doctor, who recently completed one thousand ophthalmic surgery at JP Hospital, performed another successful cataract surgery, giving new light to this very young 14 years old patient, who has entire life in front of her. Once the operation was completed and the patient’s eye bandage was removed, the girl just could not believe that she can see this colourful world and tears started rolling down her cheeks. This is what JP Hospital has always aspired to be – to delight patients.

This JP Free Mobile Eye Screening camp started six months ago and has conducted more than 175 camps and has screened more than 35 thousand eye patients. Distributing almost 33 thousand eyeglasses with the frame to eye patients. More than 1 thousand free cataract surgery has been performed at JP Hospital under the BSKY Health Card of the Odisha govt. The goal is to make Sundergarh District cataract free.
