A lady unable to hear for the last 7 years treated by JP ENT Specialist

JP Hospital, Rourkela has changed the healthcare scenario of this region by successfully treating many diseases which would have required patients to visit outstation for treatment and thereby incurring high medical expenses. A 37 years old lady from the Kutra area came to JP Hospital with complaints of pain, pus secretion from her left ear, and hearing problems.

This patient was suffering from hearing issues for the last 7 years and was using the machine for the purpose. The patient was admitted under Dr.Ankita Joshi, JP Senior Consultant ENT. After the initial assessment, Dr. Ankita Joshi diagnosed the patient as having a damaged ear drum and severe infection resulting in pus secretions, which was making hearing difficult for her. The eardrum is a thin membrane between your outer ear and your middle ear that vibrates when sound waves hit it. Repeated ear infections, surgery, or trauma may cause damage to your eardrum or middle ear bones that must be corrected with surgery. Damage to the eardrum or middle ear bones can result in hearing loss and an increased risk of ear infections. Before coming to JP Hospital this patient had visited a government hospital and advised her to visit JP Hospital because of better facilities & availability of specialist doctors.

Dr. Ankita Joshi decided to go for Type 1 tympanoplasty (a surgical technique for closing tympanic membrane perforation and reconstructing the tympanic membrane) with mastoidectomy, which is a surgery that removes diseased cells from the air-filled spaces in the mastoid bone. The Mastoid is the part of your skull that sits just behind your ear. Further, the patient was treated with antibiotics and other supportive medications. Gradually the patient started responding to the treatment and was discharged on the third postoperative day, in stable conditions.
