National Pathology Day celebrated at JP Hospital

National Pathology Day was celebrated yesterday, April 13th, 2023, at Jaiprakash Hospital & Research Centre Pvt. Ltd., Rourkela. This event was organized by the Scientific Association of Rourkela Pathologists (SARP) and coordinated by Dr. Suchitra Sahoo, HOD Lab Medicine of JPHRC & President of SARP.

This day marks the birth anniversary of Dr. V.R. Khanolkar, the first Pathologist of India, who is also known as the Father of Pathology & Medical Research in India. Born on April 13th, 1895, Dr. Khanolkar obtained his MD in Pathology from the University of London in 1921. He was instrumental in putting India on the International map, by working tirelessly in the field of leprosy, radiation, and cancer. He was conferred with the Padma Bhushan Award in 1955 for his glorious contribution.

This day can be utilized in curating a three-pronged campaign, “Celebrate, Communicate & Educate” the people in modern medicine, to commemorate the selfless service given ‘behind the stages’ by our talented pathologists, and appreciate their efforts.

On this National Pathology Day, SARP conducted a CME, and ‘meet & greet’ event at JP Hospital for Pathologists of Rourkela with the support of Guest of Honour Dr. Chandan Bansal Managing Director Jaiprakash Hospital.

The event began with excellent scientific sessions by the eminent pathologist, Dr. Aparajita Mishra, Assoc. Prof, Dept. of Pathology Govt. Medical College Sundargarh, and Dr. Mamita Nayak, Asst. Professor Dept. of Oncopathology AHPGIC, Cuttack. This was followed by an active discussion on the recent advances in Pathology.

This exemplary session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Suchitra Sahoo, President of SARP.
